This is about the Medicare Levy payable by those that are on the Gold Card and in receipt of DFRDB that exceeds the $16740 threshold.
Since 1997 DFRDB have been taking out the Medicare Levy of 1.5% when a veterans income exceeds the above threshold. In the statement that you receive from COMSUPER (DFRDB) that are issued whenever there is a pension increase it does not indicate this fact, but only states the gross amount and total tax deducted - this tax includes the Medicare Levy.
If you are in the above catergory there is a requirement that the following procedure is carried out to have the deductions ceased.
Enclose a certified copy of your Gold Card along with a copy of the annual DVA Medicare exception letter with a note stating you request the deductions ceased.

If you wish to obtain reimbursement of past medicare levies you are advised to seek assistance through a tax agent or your tax accountant.
Here is the list of Pharmacy Medications available to Gold Card Veterans - but let me say that when you go to your doctor make sure you take the list with you as he/she may not be aware of all these medications being available to Veterans and then when you get to your Chemist he/she may have to order them in.......
